Enacted: March 17, 2009
Amended: June 3, 2009
Amended: September 11, 2009
Article 1 (Purpose) This document sets forth matters on sets of guidelines on carbon footprint labelling (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines") as per Article 4, Paragraphs 1 and 3 of the Operating Rules on Carbon Footprint Labelling, or Ministry of Environment Public Notice No. 2009-86.
Article 2 (Guidelines on How to Produce Carbon Footprint Labels)
① The Guidelines help calculate the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated in the process of
production, transportation, distribution, use, and disposal of materials and products, and they comprise three
sets of guidelines―one for general products (hereinafter a set of guidelines for general products shall be
referred to as Guidelines Set I), another for energy-using products (hereinafter referred to as Guidelines Set II),
         and the other for
different scenarios of use of various energy-using products (hereinafter referred to as Guidelines Set III).
② A person intending to acquire a carbon footprint label (hereinafter referred to as an "Applicant") shall calculate
the GHG emissions according to Guidelines Set I as detailed in Annex 1, Guidelines Set II as detailed in Annex
2, or Guidelines Set III as detailed in Annex 3 regarding the product in question.
③ Guidelines Set I sets forth matters on the calculation of the GHG emissions from products that do not use energy
         when in use.
④ Guidelines Set II sets forth matters on the calculation of the GHG emissions from products that use energy when in use.
⑤ Guidelines Set III sets forth matters on the calculation of the GHG emissions due to energy use by energy-using
products, of which the calculation method is not stipulated in Guidelines Set II.
Article 3. (Emissions Factors for Carbon Footprint Labelling, etc.)
① Emissions factors for carbon footprint labelling, as well as waste statistics, that are to be used for calculating the
GHG emissions for products will be posted on the Carbon Footprint Label website of the Korea Environmental
Industry and Technology Institute at www.edp.or.kr after approval of the director of KEITI.
Supplementary Provisions
These Guidelines shall become effective on September 11, 2009.
